"Skid steer" covers machines that range from a 740 kg unit you can push around a backyard to full-size loaders that run eight hours a day on a construction site. Picking the right size is the single most important purchase decision. Here is how our four classes differ, in plain language.
Z360: the compact entry point
The smallest in the lineup, built for properties, nurseries and landscaping crews where gates, garden beds and finished surfaces matter. Light enough to work on lawns with low ground pressure, narrow enough for side gates.
Z390: the 3/4-ton workhorse
The Z390 is the volume seller of the mini class: 740 kg operating weight, a 9.7 kW engine at 3600 rpm and a 250 kg rated bucket load, with a 0.12 m³ bucket. It is offered with your choice of engine — Runtong, Zongshen, KOOP or Briggs & Stratton — and in tracked or wheeled undercarriage.
- Best for: fencing, small demolition cleanup, material moving, property maintenance
- Fits through standard yard gates
- Attachment-ready: auger, trencher, fork, blade
Z470: the mid-size all-rounder
The Z470 steps up in hydraulic flow and frame strength — the class where land-clearing and construction crews settle. Big enough for daily material handling with pallet forks and a full bucket, compact enough to trailer easily.
Z520: the heavy-duty option
The largest of the line, the Z520 is specified for continuous work: loading trucks, moving palletized materials, running high-demand attachments. If your fleet will run eight-hour shifts, start here.
Quick comparison
| Model | Class | Best for | Standout option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z360 | Compact entry | Properties, nurseries, gates | Light ground pressure |
| Z390 | Mini workhorse | Fencing, cleanup, maintenance | Engine choice, track/wheel |
| Z470 | Mid-size | Land clearing, construction | Hydraulic flow |
| Z520 | Heavy duty | Daily loading, truck work | Continuous duty frame |
Two questions that narrow it fast
- What is the heaviest thing you lift daily? Match rated load with margin, not at the limit.
- How many hours per day? Under 4 h/day, the mini classes are economical; full-shift work justifies Z470/520.
